What is a paragraph?


A paragraph is a group of related sentences that inform the reader an idea, it consist of many sentences that work together to explain about the idea of that paragraph.

A good paragraph consist of three parts :
The first is topic sentence, it is normally the first sentence of paragraph. It is the most important thing in paragraph because it helps the reader knows about the whole of it and it is the main idea of it.
The second is supporting sentences, they come after the topic sentence. These are sentences that support the topic sentence. They explain about the main idea of the paragraph. The supporting sentences must be supporting facts, details, and specific example.
The third is concluding idea, it is the last sentence in a paragraph and it summarizes the main idea of the paragraph.

There are seven types of paragraphs:
  1. Narration: Narrative paragraphs tell a story, it is formed from several events which combine into a story. It is usually contains of characters, a setting, a conflict, and a resolution. Time and place and person are normally established in this paragraph.
  2. Exposition: Exposition is paragraph explains something, it must be trusted and believable.  
  3. Definition: Definition is paragraph that defines something. It must be written in a simple word so that the reader will understand about what the writer says.
  4. Description: descriptive paragraph is written in order to make the reader is able to imagine the scene, object, person, etc. It makes the reader know what it looks like even though they never see it.  
  5. Comparison: it is paragraph written to compare two or more objects, characters, and etc.
  6. Process Analysis is describes how a process happens. This type of paragraph is usually followed by illustration to help in understanding of process better.
  7. Persuasion: this paragraph is written in such a way to persuade people to change their minds or take an action. In this paragraph the writer needs to supply the reader with the information, analysis, and context they need. Because it very important to influence the reader, and form their new opinion, and take action.
